About the Study

elevateMS is a app-based study to learn what triggers your MS symptoms and to determine possible trends in your overall health. This study is about you. The iPhone app records your own story of living with or without active symptoms of MS and you securely share that information with researchers. You are in charge.

Some of the great features of the elevateMS app include:

  • Symptom tracker tool
  • Check-in to record your overall wellness
  • Overview of your activity on your activity dashboard
  • Customizable reminders

So long as you are 18 years old or older, live in the U.S. and have a personal iPhone (model 5 or newer with iOS 8 or later), then you can join elevateMS.

How the Study Works

The elevateMS study uses a mobile app with a mix surveys and short activities to measure your health and track few symptoms of MS. If you want to participate you must download the study application on your iPhone. This study is only available on iPhones at this time. Click on icons below to learn more.

Step 1

Download the free iPhone App from the iTunes Store.

Step 2

Consent to participate & create an account

You will first complete the consent process, explaining the potential benefits and risks of participating. Afterward we will ask you few questions about the study to make sure you understand the study. If you decide to join, then you will create your account.

Step 3

Perform simple tasks and complete short surveys

You will receive notices on your phone asking you to complete simple weekly activities. These activities may be walking with your phone in the pocket or gently tapping the screen with your fingers. There will also be brain teasers or puzzles. These activities should take you about 10 minutes each week.

From time to time you will receive short surveys. Surveys may be about your health, exercise, diet, sleep and medicines. You can skip any question you do not want to answer. We may send you the same surveys multiple times or ask you if you notice any changes in your health.

This study will last about one year. We’d like you to participate for three consecutive months or longer if you can.

Step 4

Track your health

You can view past activities on the app’s dashboard. As you use the app you may see important changes and trends. This may help you recognize why you experience certain symptoms, and how your symptoms change over time.

Step 5

Scientists make discoveries

When you use the app you contribute to research on MS. The information you provide through the elevateMS app gets encrypted on the phone to protect your privacy. Your participation will help create a powerful dataset that may lead to scientific breakthrough and to new ways to help people with MS improve their well-being. We are also inviting people without MS to participate
